Staff Development Guidelines

Professional Learning Units (PLU) and Continuing Education units (CE) are two different forms of continuing education for our profession. The requirements for both units are different. The CE is required for social workers that are licensed and need contact hours for licensure requirements. A prior approval form is not needed for CE's. You must have 10 contact hours for 1 CE. There is a $5.00 processing fee for the CE certificate.

The PLU is given through the State Department of Education and is a requirement for local Board of Education. The State Department of Education requires a prior approval form, signed by your Superintendent. You must have 10 contact hours for 1 PLU.

The School Social Work Association of Georgia provides PLU and CE credits for all SSWAG members as part of your benefit of becoming a SSWAG member.

Listed below are the procedures for obtaining PLU and/or CE credit at SSWAG conferences:

• PLU and CE credit will be given for Fall and Spring Conferences only.
• At least one PLU and CE credit will be available for Fall Conference and one SDU credit will be available for Spring Conference.
• Bring your prior approval form, signed by your Superintendent or his/her designee, to the conference to receive your PLU. Do not send it in with your registration.
• All members must sign in and verify information in the registration book is complete and accurate.

There will be a new change in the CEU procedure for the Spring Conference. It is not necessary to sign the CEU book at each session. We will have the sign in book at the registration table and you will only have to sign it one time.
