Ms. Yolanda F. Copeland, LMSW, Ed.S
Ms. Yolanda F. Copeland is a School Social Worker for the McDuffie County School System. She has been employed with the McDuffie County School System for 21 years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Tuskegee University in 1988, her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 1989 and her Educational Specialist Degree in Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University in 2004. She is currently a Licensed Master Level Social Worker for the State of Georgia.
Ms. Copeland enjoys working with children, families and school system employees in the community with the sole purpose of removing the barrier that prevents children from learning. She facilitates the school system attendance support team meetings, represents the school system in Juvenile Court and on the McDuffie County LIPT Interdisciplinary team meetings which focuses on providing services and case management to difficult cases in the community and provides child abuse and suicide prevention training to school system personnel. She is the Homeless liaison for the County, coordinates the county home bound services program and prepares the monthly student movement report for the Board of Education meetings. Ms. Copeland served as a Field Instructor for graduate social work students at the University of South Carolina, Clarke Atlanta University and Walden University and the undergraduate field instructor for Augusta State University. She is presently an adjunct Professor of Sociology at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia.
Ms. Copeland has been an active member of SSWAG since she accepted the position of School Social Work in 1996. She has held several state and district positions in SSWAG and is most proud to have served as the State President of SSWAG in 2004-2005. She is currently the State Procedural Guidelines Chair.
Ms. Copeland is a woman of character, integrity and faith. She believes in giving back to her community and getting involved with many civic organizations that will help the community to thrive. Her mission is to empower women and children to become strong leaders and her work in the community exemplifies her mission. She is very active and has held leadership roles in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, The Links, Incorporated, and the Rosa T. Beard Debutante club. She has also served on several boards in McDuffie County and the Augusta Community and is a graduate of Leadership McDuffie and Leadership Augusta.
Ms. Copeland’s philosophy of education is to provide each child with the necessary tools that will enable them to determine their own strengths and give them the guidance to find the path to success by collaborating home, school and community to “Lift the Veil of Ignorance.”
